potatoes without skin, cut into cubes (4 large pieces)
vegetable oil (1 tbsp.)
chopped carrot (5 pieces)
chopped onion (1 piece)
onion, finely chopped (1 tbsp.)
butter (1 tbsp.)
lean ground beef (1 lb.)
Cheddar cheese, shredded, divided (1/2 cup)
salt to taste
beef broth (3/4 cup)
ketchup (1 tbsp.)
pepper to taste
flour (2 tbsp.)
Prepare a pot with lots of water and heat it over the high heat until the water starts boiling. Add potato cubes and cook them until they become tender but firm. It should take you around 15 min. When ready, mash the cubes. Add in butter (1 tbsp.), onion (1 tbsp.) and shredded cheese (1/4 cup). Add some salt and pepper and mix the ingredients. Set the potato aside.
Prepare one more pot with lots of water and add a little bit of salt. Add in chopped carrots and cook them until they become tender but firm. It should take around 15 min. Mash the carrot pieces and set them aside.
Preheat your oven to 375°F.
Prepare a frying pan and pour (1 tbsp.) in it. Add chopped onion and fry it until it becomes clear and then add in ground beef and cook until it becomes brown. Discard the excess fat, and add flour (2 tbsp.). Stir the ingredients and keep cooking them for around 1 min. Add ketchup (1 tbsp.) and beef broth (3/4 cup). When the liquid starts boiling, change the level а heat to low and keep simmering the dish for 5 min.
Prepare a casserole dish of about 2 qt. Spread a layer of beef meat on the bottom of the dish. Then do the same with the carrot mixture, and then with the potato mixture. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese (1/2 cup) on top.
Place the dish in the preheated oven for around 20 min. until it becomes golden brown.
